Endless paperwork

April 22, 2022

The long walks in the woods are helping us keep our sanity!

The two weeks before coming to Silver Springs State Park we spent at Bay Bayou RV Resort, Tampa and we spent a good part of that time doing the paperwork and line standing required when you retire/move into an RV!

Setting up residency was important and with three trips to several DMVs we got our new Florida licenses and registrations/plates. In Pinellas County you can’t just walk in and wait – you have to make an appointment. And instead of getting your registration BEFORE you can switch your insurance out, you have to get insurance BEFORE you get your registration. Thus the multiple trips and many hours on the phone.

COBRA is no joke either. Since I retired at 60, I’ll need to navigate primary health insurance for the next five years. You would think that would be easy. Pay the fees and continue the insurance. Uh, no.

In our case, if you are going to make any changes to your plan, you can’t even sign up online. You have to snail mail your application in and hope and pray they get it in time because they will not accept a Fed Ex or other outside delivery package.

Took the form to the post office – took a picture of the signed form and a picture of me sending it, got it certified and waited – and waited – and waited. Post office can’t tell me where it is, other than the insurance company must not have picked it up from their box. Three weeks and multiple phone calls later they tell me I can fax it over. Downloaded a new form (because I had snail mailed the one they sent me) went to a FexEx, faxed it over and waited and called. They say they STILL don’t have it.

The customer service people up to this point, were all incredibly nice, they simply could not help me. One even told me that they were required BY LAW to only accept snail mail because they had to have a physical signature.

Legal pals, in this virtual world we live in, could this really be true???

I called again. This time, I get someone who told me how I could send a demand E Mail explaining how I have TRIED to get them the forms. Got a confirmation that they received the E mail and FINALLY – I have confirmation that I’m accepted and I have made my first two payments. And…..my paperwork, waiting lines days may be behind me for now.

If you made it throug this not so interesting part of the newly retired, here’s a picture of Reba and Tim and me on a walk this morning. Reba is saying “come on Mom, HURRY up” and Tim is saying “are we there yet???”

Pinecones – and golf

March 19th, 2022

You wish I had picked some up for you, don’t you?

If you are in south Georgia, be sure to spend some time in Georgia Veterans State Park.

There is a beautiful golf course attached which Tim and I had nearly to ourselves as we played the first 9 holes I have played in at least a decade!

The magnificent pine trees had shed the most perfect pine cones I had ever seen and if we had a house we were decorating for Christmas this year some may have made their way into our truck! I tried to get our daughter, Emily, to let me bring some to her, but she just laughed and said, “no thank you.” I guess I didn’t pass that natural decorating gene down! 🙂

My happy place

April 19th, 2022

I spent a few hours on the water at Silver Springs State Park before the rest of the Happy Campers got in. The springs are cold and clear and filled with wildlife.

I did what they called the two hour “path” but got it done in just an hour, so I did it again! 🙂

Silver Springs Florida

April 19th, 2022

We made it to Silver Springs State Park despite the traffic and crazy drivers. We are joining the “Happy Campers” group my sister Lori and brother-in-law John belong to. They are mostly still working, so we beat them to the park by a few days. Good thing we had time to rest up – these are SERIOUS campers and know how to have a good time!

Reba can’t believe how HUGE these RV sites are!

Don’t be THIS GUY!

April 3rd, 2022

We can’t stop as quickly as you can.

I get it, it’s annoying to be stuck behind an RV or other large vehicle. We purposefully leave a significant gap between our rig and whatever is in front of us.

This is NOT an invitation to cut in front of us.

If something were to go wrong, I guarantee you will be on the losing end of the accident you cause.

Mimosa please

April 2, 2022

We dropped by the Saturday market at Ybor City where I got my fortune read and an amazing reflexology session. Oh, and we met some of the city birds! There were beautiful and BOLD chickens everywhere!

Can anyone read this?

We went on to brunch at Gaspar’s Grotto, which was delicious. I asked Tim to order me a mimosa when I used the restroom and came back to this!

Tried, but I couldn’t finish it all..

Brother John’s tickets

March 29th, 2022

My brother John (you will meet brother-in-law John in another post) has the most incredible tickets to the Tampa Bay Lightening and even though he knows I know and care very little about the actual game of sports, I love the spectacle of it all. Check out these seats!

John’s seats are literally right on the glass!

The penalty boxes are right to each side of the seats, so we got to witness a lot of the smack talk

And I’m not sure exactly why the most profitable team in hockey (so says my brother) has such a need for duct tape, but it did bring me back to my old radio days!

Pretty sure they could afford to just get this stuff fixed, right?

Adjust

March 24th, 2022

We stayed an extra night in the Blue Ridge KOA so we didn’t have to make the drive down to Lake Blackshear in stormy weather.

Got up early this morning and got on the road by 8:30. We made it through Atlanta area traffic without too much trouble and I even participated in a Zoom call from the truck.

We got to Lake Blackshear and Georgia Veterans State Park, to find out that while we are here they are having a Watermelon festival including a Chili Cookoff, art festival and air balloons! What a happy surprise!

Our neighbors on both sides of us have been so welcoming and helpful!

Tim picked up a steak at Stripling’s General Store and we had a wonderful dinner with the lake right in our “backyard.”
